Custom Orders & Design Policy

At Foyle Engraving Co., each custom piece is individually designed to your exact requirements. Custom work involves detailed design time, consultations and approvals. To ensure clarity and fairness, the following terms apply.

Design Process

  • We provide up to two (2) initial preview designs/mock-ups based on your request.
  • You may select your preferred option and request adjustments.
  • A final proof will be issued for approval before engraving begins.
  • Engraving will only commence once the final proof is approved in writing.

Deposits

  • A 25% non-refundable deposit is required before any design work begins.
  • This covers time, design work, preparation and consultation.
  • The deposit is deducted from the final balance once the order proceeds to engraving.

Revisions

Your custom design includes:

  • Up to 2 initial preview designs
  • 1 final revision

Any additional revisions, proofs or redesign requests may incur an extra design fee, agreed in advance.

Approval & Customer Responsibility

  • Customers must carefully check all wording, spelling, quotes, dates, names, punctuation, layout and imagery in the final proof.
  • We engrave exactly what is approved.
  • Foyle Engraving Co. accepts no liability for errors present in the customer-approved proof.

Intellectual Property & Copyright

By submitting images, artwork, text, logos or photographs, you confirm that:

  • You own the rights to the material, or
  • You have permission from the rights holder

Foyle Engraving Co. accepts no liability for copyright infringement on customer-provided content.

Production Timelines

Production of custom items begins only after:

    1. Final design approval (in writing), and
    2. Full payment or deposit being received

Custom engraving requires:

  • 5 full business days for completion
  • Dispatch on the 6th business day

Delays in responding, approving proofs, or providing high-quality images will extend this timeline.

Cancellations

  • If you cancel your order after design work has begun, your deposit will be retained in full to cover design and consultation time.
  • Once a final proof has been approved, no further changes, cancellations or refunds can be made.
  • Custom items are non-refundable unless confirmed to be faulty or damaged upon arrival.

Refunds & Faults

Custom or personalised items cannot be returned, refunded or exchanged once engraved.

Replacements or refunds will only be issued if the item arrives damaged, and only if:

  • Damage is reported within 3 days of delivery, and
  • Clear photographs are provided

Outdoor Use, Weathering & Customer Responsibility

Slate is a natural stone and is not designed to withstand harsh weather conditions without proper protection and secure installation. If used outdoors, customers accept full responsibility for placement, safety and long-term care.

Weather Exposure

  • Slate may naturally weather, lighten, fade or develop surface markings outdoors.
  • Ireland’s high winds and wet climate make unsecured outdoor use unsuitable.
  • These natural changes are not defects and are not grounds for replacement or refund.

Wind, Impact & Stability

  • Slate can break, crack or fall if exposed to strong winds or unstable placement.
  • Surfaces such as soil, grass, gravel or uneven ground increase breakage risk.
  • Foyle Engraving Co. accepts no liability for damage caused by weather, wind, falls, installation choices or accidental impact.

Protection During Severe Weather
Slate must be removed or protected during:

  • High winds
  • Storms
  • Heavy rain
  • Frost or freezing temperatures

We cannot replace or refund items damaged due to lack of protection during adverse weather.

Fixtures, Stands & Installation

  • Any stands supplied or recommended by Foyle Engraving Co. are for indoor use only.
  • We are not installation professionals and cannot advise on securing slate outdoors.
  • Customers must seek appropriate third-party advice for fixing or mounting slate in outdoor settings.

Full Responsibility
By choosing to display slate outdoors, the customer accepts full responsibility for:

  • Securing the item
  • Protecting it from weather
  • Preventing falls or damage
  • Managing ongoing care and maintenance

Foyle Engraving Co. accepts no liability for outdoor damage of any kind.

Seasonal Delays – Christmas, New Year & Peak Periods

During busier times such as Christmas, New Year, Black Friday or seasonal peaks, response times, design turnaround, processing and postage times may be slower than usual.

We appreciate your patience during these periods and will communicate clearly if delays are expected.

Final Statement

By placing a custom order with Foyle Engraving Co., you acknowledge and accept all terms above, including full responsibility for proof accuracy, outdoor placement, weather exposure, installation decisions and care of the item after delivery.
